Tokyo 2014: Day 8 (Narita-Singapore-Penang with SQ)

Some pictures during our return flight from Tokyo.

Done with counter check-in at Narita airport, we had breakfast at landside Tully's Coffee before heading to immigration and security clearance. The nice SQ check-in agent reminded us to proceed early to our gate. True enough, it was a very looong walk to reach there. Passed through duty free area but nothing interesting. I still have couple thousands yen remaining and decided to exchange it to CHF for my upcoming trip.

Tokyo 2014: Day 8 (Tokyo - Narita Airport via Keisei Skyliner)

Day 8. Finally this dreaded day has come. Today is the end of our wonderful week in Tokyo and time for us to come back to reality.

Our flight to Singapore will depart at 11AM, so we check-out from hotel very early in the morning, at 6.30. From hotel, we walked a few minutes to Nippori station to catch our 7.15AM train (Keisei Skyliner). To take this train, you have to purchase the ticket in advance because all seats are reserved. For our case, we bought "Keisei Skyliner + 2 Days Metro Pass" package during arrival in Tokyo a week before. It cost 4,880 yen per adult (public transport in Tokyo is free for children below 6 years old). The package consists of return journey ticket from Narita Airport  to central Tokyo via Keisei Skyliner, plus 2 days Tokyo Metro pass (valid on Tokyo Metro line only). Actually, you have to exchange the Keisei Skyliner voucher to real ticket before boarding the train. After purchase, I directly asked the counter to reserve our Skyliner train for both return journey. We also plan our itinerary accordingly to fully use the Metro pass. For instance, all attraction that are reachable via Metro line (like Chiyoda, Asakusa, Kappabashi, Shibuya etc) are planned within the same day. For the remaining days, we use the Suica.

Tokyo 2014: Day 7 (shopping day...)

Time really fly fast when you're having fun. It's already day 7 in Tokyo, which is our last vacation day before returning back to Malaysia tomorrow. We have no schedule for today. Like many previous trips, we always plan the last day free and easy. More flexibility. We have covered most of Tokyo's touristy areas, so today we decided to contribute further to Japanese economy through some shopping.

With our remaining Yen, high end shopping strips like Roppongi and Ginza are definitely out from our list. Instead we re-visited places like Nippori and Ameyoko which offer lots of amazing stuff at more reasonable price. We've been there few days back and marked some items to buy, so now is the time to grab them!

Visiting CERN

A short break from my Tokyo trip report.

I successfully book my upcoming visit to CERN.

What is CERN?

CERN is the acronym for "Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire" or in English, European Organization of Nuclear Research. If you never heard about it, please watch Angels & Demons movie (starring Tom Hanks), or read the Dan Brown's novel.

I am going to Switzerland soon (for vacation of course!) and will stay at Geneva for few days. Other than enjoying its breathtaking landscape, I decided to do something less touristy, and a crash course in elementary particles sounds like a fun thing! By the way, visiting CERN is ranked as #2 Geneva activities in Tripadvisor.
